Barnetby East is now the sole signal box controlling the layout in the immediate vicinity of Barnetby station - the concentration of five running lines and two through sidings to/from Wrawby Junction into three running lines for the busy section towards Brocklesby Junction.

On the Down, the Down Fast and Down Slow converge to continue forward as the Down Main. A stub of the former Down Goods remains, acting as a headshunt to permit shunting long trains into the Down Sidings. On the Up, the Up Main becomes the Up Fast with a facing connection into the Up Slow. The Up Goods ends at that connection, diverging again shortly afterwards to continue to Wrawby. A further facing connection gives access to the Reception Sidings and, with a reversal, the Cattle Wharf and Engineer's Siding.

Barnetby works Absolute Block to Wrawby over all five running lines, and towards Brocklesby on the Up Main. Track Circuit Block applies on the Down Main and Down Goods from Brocklesby, with trains described by bell and the section broken by a stop signal on each line around halfway from Brocklesby. Trains may be signalled into the Reception Sidings without obtaining permission but care must be taken to ensure that they are actually clear (if necessary) first. Note that this is an area of possible future development within the simulation.

New Barnetby level crossing is operated by a crossing keeper who will request the release (by means of a single-stroke bell) when a user wishes to cross. It can be difficult to find a suitable margin to give the release, as the protecting signals on each line are quite a long way in rear of the crossing.

When working the simulation solo, or with Wrawby under AI control for any other reason, it may be beneficial to edit the schedule of approaching Up trains to change the running line on which they will approach Barnetby, in order that one may be regulated for a following (faster) train to pass. In reality, Barnetby is the last effective opportunity to regulate freight trains before reaching the Immingham area, so it might also be necessary to hold freight trains in either the Up Slow or one of the Reception Sidings until they can be received at Immingham - for example, if problems with loading equipment means that earlier departures are delayed and the destination terminal is full!
